SUFFOLK—William James "Jimmie" Rogerson passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2024. He was born September 9, 1935 in Hertford, NC, to the late Daniel L. and Ella Boyce Rogerson. He was a graduate of Cradock High School, Class of 1954.

Jimmie worked as a planner and estimator at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring after 37 years.  He was a past member of Alexander Baptist Church, where his mother was a charter member, and taught Sunday school for over 30 years.  Jimmie had attended Church of the Resurrection with his wife for many years.

Jimmie was proud of his many years as a Boy Scout leader, with his three sons achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.  He built and raced hydroplanes, carrying on the family tradition started by his father, which continued through his sons Dan and Brian racing tunnel hulls.  He loved hunting in Bath County and living on Bennett's Creek in Suffolk.  Jimmie was a master carpenter and had a home repair business for over 20 years.

He dearly loved his wife and family.  He leaves behind his wife of over 64 years, Dale C. Rogerson; his sons Dan (Nancy) of Suffolk, Michael (Kelly) of Hampstead, NC and Brian (Tricia) of Virginia Beach; his sister Mae Thompson; six grandsons; and two step-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.

Special thanks to Andre' and Norma Shipp, Charlie and Annetta Barton for their friendship, Patty Spencer for her loving care, and Sentara Hospice.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, at Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703.  The family will receive friends an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Church of the Resurrection; Oasis Social Ministries; or Western Tidewater Free Clinic. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
