William D.
Lambert
Sep 28, 1928 — May 30, 2023
Portsmouth
William "Bill" David Lambert, 94, was peacefully embraced by God on May 30, 2023. He was born in Hannibal, Missouri and grew up in Fayette, Alabama.
Small town and country life compelled Bill to join the United States Air Force in 1947 in order to see the world. His dedicated 28 years of service took him all over the globe, for much of which he was accompanied by his wife and children. He was stationed in Guam, Morocco, England, Texas, California and Aviano, Italy, where he took his family traveling all through Europe. He served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War in 1966-67.
Bill retired at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland in 1975, and moved with his wife to Portsmouth, Virginia to be closer to the grandchildren. There, he could be found pouring his soul into his yard and vegetable garden. His grandchildren fondly remember him decorating his house, especially for them, with the best Christmas lights in the neighborhood. He kept his grandchildren, and caregivers entertained with his storytelling, quick wit and humor. William was a loving and loyal husband to his adoring and devoted wife, Maria. They have truly had an enduring love for the ages.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria; his children, Laurina Hamlet (Carter), Bill Harley (Susan), Bett Cornetta, Eva Dacosta (Manny), and Teresa Serpa; and his beloved grandchildren, Maria Balch (David), Liz Otis (Jeremy), Rachel Mitchell (Clay), Victoria and Anna Cornetta, and Chris Justice; and his great-grandchildren, Vieira, Carter, Parker and Gemma.
With deep heartfelt gratitude and endless thanks, we could not have done this without the kind and compassionate dedication of our wonderful caregivers: Kristine, Chanay, Keena, Michelle and the caring nurses of Trinity Hospice. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Services and interment will be private. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
