Von L.
Piersall, Jr.
Jun 25, 1938 — Jul 29, 2024
Suffolk
SUFFOLK--Von LeRoy Piersall, Jr. passed away on July 29, 2024 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 25,1938 in Marrietta, Ohio to the late Von LeRoy Piersall, Sr. and Garnett Lett Piersall. The family moved to Portsmouth when Von was four years old.
A 1957 graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School, Von was voted wittiest in his senior class. He graduated from The University of Richmond in 1961 and The T.C. Williams School of Law in 1964. He was elected Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Portsmouth in 1966, the youngest Commonwealth's Attorney in the history of the State of Viriginia. In 1970, he was appointed Judge of the Portsmouth Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, where he served for 25 years, and was appointed to the Portsmouth Circuit Court in 1995. He retired from the Circuit Court in 2003 but continued to serve as a substitute judge and mediator for another ten years.
Von met Judy, the love of his life, at a DeMolay dance on Rodman Avenue in 1960. They were married in 1964 and were almost inseparable for the last 60 years.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Portsmouth Elks Lodge and the Lions Club. He loved Green Acres Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for 59 years, serving on the Session and as Adult Sunday School Leader. He also loved the Washington Football Team, the law, old cowboy movies, and Scotch. But mostly he loved a good meal with his family and friends. He lived an amazing 86 years, full of love and accomplishments, before Parkinson's took him from us.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Piersall; his daughter, Lynn Evans Piersall; son Trey Piersall; daughter-in-law Christine Piersall; two grandchildren, Liliane and Benjamin; and his beloved dog, Scout.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 2nd, at Green Acres Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church, at 3135 Hanley Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23703. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
