PORTSMOUTH – Virginia Ruth "Ginny" Darden McClenney, 72, passed away September 26, 2017.
Virginia was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, the daughter of the late Lester Jacob Darden, Sr. and Evelyn Anna Domme Darden. She was retired from "The New York Times" as an accounts payable manager, and was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, Chesapeake.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Barry McClenney and Larry McClenney; and a brother, Paul Darden. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Melissa Nicely (Bob); two brothers, Jimmy Darden and Jack Darden; a sister-in-law, Amy Darden; four grandchildren, Cailyn Miller and Meadow, Devon and Shane Nicely; several nieces and nephews, Chris Darden, Michael Darden, Jimmy Darden, Jon-Paul Darden, Morgan Darden, Rob Parker, Jason Darden, Jesse Slover, Shelby Hill, Chloe McDaniels, and Carolyn Wilkins; many great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Millie Gower, Catherine Hill, and Kathy McDaniels.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, September 29, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, immediately followed by a reception in the church hall.
