Thomas E.
Myers
Jun 23, 1943 — Feb 18, 2024
Chesapeake
CHESAPEAKE—Thomas Elbert Myers, 80, of Chesapeake, VA peacefully passed away on February 18, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born on June 23, 1943, in Portsmouth, to the late Vernon "Monk" Myers and Norah Catherine Myers.
Tommy attended Cradock High School in Portsmouth. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his service, he worked and retired from Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk. He then enjoyed his retirement years at Bide-a-wee Golf Course, working in the pro-shop and later volunteering as a Marshall.
Tommy was an avid golfer who spent many days playing golf and, as he always said, "shooting the breeze" with his pals at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course. He could often be found cleaning and shining his Mustang, which was his pride and joy. He proudly lit up each time he told stories of his time in the Air Force, especially his time stationed in Panama.
Above all, Tommy loved his family and made sure that he often told them how much. The precious and special love that he and his wife Rita shared is a legacy that will live on in many generations to come.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was predeceased by his brother John Joseph Myers. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rita Bass Myers; son Thomas Anthony "Tony" Myers of Washington, DC; daughter, Kelly Ann Guyot (Charles "Buzz") of Portsmouth, VA; grandchildren Nicholas Bailey (Meagan) and Rachel Turner (Wilson); step-grandchildren Ashley Guyot and Amanda Chappelle; great-grandchildren Violet Bailey, Nora Turner, Matthew Bailey, and Jameson Luck; brother James Myers of Suffolk, VA; and sister Cathy Jarman of Winterville, NC.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 522 High St., Portsmouth. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul Restoration Fund, c/o 3501 Cedar Ln., Portsmouth, VA 23703. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
