Obituary

Tazewell "Jack" Jackson Green, 73, of Chesapeake, VA, unexpectedly entered into heaven on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Born October 10, 1951, in Lynchburg, VA, to the late Elisha Parker Green and Elizabeth Jackson Green, Jack moved with his family to Norfolk at the age of six. By 14, he had met the love of his life, Brenda, whom he dated for six years before marrying — beginning a 53-year journey together as high school sweethearts.

Jack graduated from Maury High School in 1970 and went on to college before beginning a long and rewarding career in building supply. He first worked with Robbie's Home Center in Portsmouth until 1982, then with CE Thurston & Sons in Norfolk for 23 years. When the department he led closed, Jack continued his career with BWI, and later found a perfect fit with Eastern Aluminum Supply, which became Richard's Building Supply. He retired in 2022, grateful for the friendships and experiences he had gained along the way.

In 1984, Jack and Brenda became members of Great Bridge United Methodist Church, where Jack served by teaching Sunday school and supporting the youth group. His faith journey was marked by special moments shared with his family — being confirmed alongside his daughter, witnessing her marriage in the church, and later watching his grandsons be baptized there.

Jack and Brenda were blessed with their daughter, Whitney, in 1982, who was the joy of his life. Whitney and her husband, Tom, later made him a proud grandfather to Thomas and Jackson, who brought him endless delight. Some of Jack's happiest moments were teaching his grandsons the sports and games he had always loved.

From an early age, Jack was an athlete at heart. Whether football, tennis, racquetball, baseball, or especially golf, he brought energy, laughter, and camaraderie to every game. He enjoyed all the competition and banter that came with playing golf with friends and family, at Greenbrier Country Club, and with the Battlefield Golf League.  He was always in a good mood when he came home with fun stories and usually some winnings.  If it was a bad game day, he could shrug it off with a beer or two, no big deal.

Jack was a happy, positive, and upbeat person, who loved people and always met challenges head on.  He was known to lead, mentor, and encourage you to be your best.

He liked staying busy, working hard, playing hard, and having fun.  Many of us experienced his quick wit, that meant he didn't always have his mental filter in place at times.  But he was usually forgiven and everyone had something to tease him about.

Jack is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Brenda; their daughter, Whitney Blair (Tom); and their two grandsons, Thomas and Jackson. He is also survived by his brothers, E. Parker Green Jr. (Marsha) and Ike A. Green (Evonne); sister-in-law, Sheryl Bratton (Wayne); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who enriched his life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Chesapeake Fire and Police Departments for their heroic efforts on Sunday evening.

Jack was deeply loved, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, at Great Bridge United Methodist Church , 201 Stadium Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
