Susan Rhodes
Nespoli
Jul 2, 1958 — Jul 1, 2024
Chesapeake
Susan Rhodes Nespoli was born on July 2, 1958 in Portsmouth, Virginia and passed away July 1, 2024.
Susan was a devoted wife, loving mother, beloved grandmother, and loyal friend. From an early age, it was clear that Susan's gift was her voice. This came in many forms: the truth when you needed to hear it, the latest joke, and a singing voice that was straight from heaven.
She met her husband, Nick, at a birthday party and then again while a music major at Tidewater Community College. Their partnership began as a musical one and extended into love, friendship, and family. They were married in 1982 and they welcomed their daughter, Lauren, in 1987.
Susan devoted 43 years to the Portsmouth Circuit Court, retiring as a Senior Deputy Clerk. She was also a dedicated member of Simonsdale Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for 35 years. Her beautiful soul was only matched by her beautiful voice.
She is predeceased by her parents: William Herbert Rhodes, Jr. "Bill" and Jean Key Rhodes.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Nicholas Nespoli "Nick"; daughter, Lauren Rhodes Nespoli Porter (Tyler); grandson, Steven Vincent Porter; brother, William Herbert Rhodes III (Lorien); sisters-in-law Amelia Nespoli Hopkins (Roger), Eleanor Nespoli Wallace (Ben); nieces and nephews Amelia Mary Wallace "Mimi", Elizabeth Sargent Wallace "Lisa", Sarah Anne Rhodes (Buddy Whitaker), Michael Anthony Hopkins, William Herbert Rhodes IV "Billy", and Amanda Lee Hopkins "Mandy"; and beloved sister-friends Annette Buttery (Nigel) and Karen Horton (Marty).
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, at Saint Paul Catholic Church 522 High Street, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass. Inurnment will take place immediately after Mass at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake. A reception will follow at Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth.
