Obituary

CHESAPEAKE—Shirley Louise Manzione Miano, 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on January 12, 2024. She was born on September 21, 1941, in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Thomas and Addie Hancock Manzione.

Shirley was a 1959 graduate of St. Paul's High School. She worked as a legal secretary for many years and retired from the law office of L. David Lindauer.

Shirley enjoyed welcoming family and friends to her home, all sitting around her kitchen table—known by many as "The Round Table"—laughing, growing, learning life's lessons and love. She was an incredible example of a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. If the world were full of people of her caliber, quick wit and charm, it would undoubtedly be a better place. She was the rock of our family and left so much love and countless memories to hold onto and share with others.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Stanley Miano Jr.; four children: Michael Miano, David Miano (Sylvia), Michelle Miano Elmer (Brad), and Sherri Miano Jones (Frank); six grandchildren: Dominick Miano, Nicole Miano, Alex Miano, Zane Perry, Zachary Perry, and Zoe Perry; four bonus grandchildren: Kyle Elmer, Kody Elmer, Jordan Jones, and Carly Jones. She is also survived by her sister, Mariana Manzione Stephens (Lisa, Amy, Lori, and Leslie); her aunt, Sue Beck of Sulphur Springs, Texas; and her many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved.

A special thank you and appreciation to the love and care provided by Maryview Medical Center doctors and nurses, and Bon Secours Hospice.
