Sheryl Weiseman
Williams
Dec 18, 1948 — Dec 4, 2025
Chesapeake
Sheryl Weiseman Williams, 76, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away on December 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 18, 1948 in Portsmouth, Virginia, Sheryl was the daughter of Marjorie Weiseman and the late Harry E. Weiseman, Jr. She was a devoted wife to Ernest G. Williams, Jr., a loving mother to Ernest "Skip" Williams III, and a cherished Grandmother to Harrison Williams.
Sheryl's life was one of deep faith, unwavering dedication, and kindness to all who crossed her path. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School, graduated from Churchland High School, and went on to earn her degree in English from Madison College (now James Madison University), where she was an active member of Kappa Delta sorority and sang in the college chorus. She spent several years teaching English at Norcom High School and Churchland Middle School before transitioning to a rewarding career as a government training specialist. She also worked as a government contractor after initially retiring from Supship Portsmouth as a training instructor. Sheryl's creative talents were also evident in her writing, and she contributed to the local Shopper magazine, leaving behind a legacy of thoughtful prose.
Sheryl's greatest joy, however, came from her role as a mother and grandmother. She welcomed the birth of her son, Ernest "Skip" Williams III in 1978, fully embracing the role of nurturing parent. Her involvement in Skip's life was marked by countless hours spent attending his athletic events and supporting his musical endeavors. Later in life, as a grandmother to Harrison, born in 2011, Sheryl continued to find happiness in watching her family grow, delighting in attending his sporting events and watching concert videos.
A gifted pianist and singer, Sheryl was deeply involved in the life of New Creation United Methodist Church in Chesapeake, where she was a devoted member for many years. She served with grace and humility, singing in the church choir and sharing her musical talents at worship services. Sheryl believed in the power of music to heal, connect, and uplift, and she brought this belief into every aspect of her life. Whether performing in church, at local establishments, or in the homes of friends, Sheryl's music was a reflection of her kind and generous spirit.
Her kindness, however, was not confined to her musical gifts. Sheryl had an incredible ability to make everyone feel welcome, no matter their background or station in life. She believed in the inherent value of every person and treated others with respect, compassion, and warmth. At church, she was known for her unwavering support of others, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or an open heart. Her home was a sanctuary for family and friends alike, where everyone was treated as family, and no one was ever turned away.
Sheryl's commitment to community extended beyond her church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Job's Daughters, and the Pilot Club, where she furthered her passion for service and making a positive impact in the lives of others. Whether through volunteering, hosting holiday gatherings, or simply being a listening ear, Sheryl was a constant source of comfort and joy.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her father, Harry E. Weiseman, Jr. and her brother Harry E. Weiseman III. She is survived by her mother, Marjorie Weiseman; her husband, Ernest Williams, Jr.; her son, Ernest "Skip" Williams III; her grandson, Harrison; and many dear friends, as well as a host of cousins and extended family.
A memorial service will be held to honor her life and legacy at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, at New Creation Methodist Church, 4320 Bruce Road, Chesapeake. There will be a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. The family invites all who knew Sheryl to join in remembering her life of service, love, and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to New Creation United Methodist Church or The Jimmy V. Foundation for cancer research. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
