Russell Ralton Cummings, 96, passed away March 28, 2015. Mr. Cummings, born in Washington, D.C. and a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, Va., was the widower of Theresa G. Cummings since her death in 2008. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a pattern maker. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a First Class Motor Machinist's Mate, was Past Commander of Cradock American Legion Post 328, and was a dedicated blood donor with over four gallons of life-saving gifts.
Survivors include four children, Donald R. Cummings (Stephanie), Barbara C. Tatman (Larry), Katherine C. Charlton (Rusty), Donna M. Cummings; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Patricia Lamb.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial, with military honors, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to WHRO, 5200 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23508.
