WAVERLY- Rupert "Wayne" Weatherly, 68, passed away on July 3, 2019. He was born in Columbia, NC to the late Louise Berry Weatherly and grew up in Portsmouth, VA.

Wayne graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and served 4 years in the US Air Force.  He then attended Portsmouth General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1978.  As a Registered Nurse, Wayne worked at Portsmouth General Hospital, for Travelers Insurance Co. and, until retirement, as a case manager at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

His memory will lovingly continue in his brother, David Warren Weatherly; his niece Dana Marie Coggins and her husband Tim; and his nephew David Wayne Weatherly, all of Waverly, VA.  Wayne's large treasure of friends from PGH, Travelers, his neighborhood and his childhood will all hold his memory dear. Wayne was a presence to be enjoyed, a spirit to be loved.

You will now find long awaited and much deserved peace, our dear brother, uncle and friend.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care unit of McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, Virginia for their compassionate care of Wayne.

A visitation and memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. Burial of his cremains will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the ASPCA or charity of choice.
