Obituary

PORTSMOUTH—Robert Michael "Mike" Holley of Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2026, following a long-fought battle with cancer. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Mike was known for his deep love for family and friends and for a generosity that seemed to have no limits. He had an unforgettable presence—able to fill a room with joy—and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and laughter.

Mike was born in Newport News, Virginia, to Robert Lewis and Ann Holley. He graduated from Belmont Abbey College and built a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and service to others. He proudly served the Portsmouth Police Department for 28 years, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. To those who worked alongside him, he was affectionately known as "The Dragon"—a name that captured his spirited personality, strength, and the energy he brought to every shift. He also owned the Olde Towne Restaurant, where his warmth and dedication to people shined through in everyday moments, along with time spent connecting with the community at Harrell's Sport Shop, and Didio's Restaurant.

Above all else, Mike was a family man. To his grandchildren, he was "Pop"—their biggest supporter, proudest fan, and a steady source of love and encouragement. He was happiest when he was cheering them on, spending time with family, and helping those he loved—quietly, consistently, and without ever expecting anything in return. His optimism was contagious, his kindness ran deep, and his positive attitude lifted everyone around him.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Patricia "Pat" Holley; his children, Carrie Evans (David), Amy Morris (Ryan), Michael Holley Jr. (Misty), and Susana Kerr (Rob); and his cherished grandchildren, Kiersten and Bella Holley, Alex Pasco (Zach), Ayden Evans, Augie and Allie June Morris, and Zoey Evans. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Penny Holley, his nephews, Paul and Jasen Holley, along with extended family and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, David Holley, who passed away in March 2026.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends an hour prior. A reception will be held immediately following the service. In true Mike fashion, he requested that everyone wear Hawaiian shirts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation .

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Riedel and Dr. Atienza for the exceptional care and support provided over the years. The family also offers sincere thanks to the Portsmouth Police Department and Mike's many colleagues and friends for the love, respect, and friendship shown to him throughout his life. A special and heartfelt thank you to Ava, Frankie, Ronnie, and Jody—Mike's dear friends—for the care they provided and the unwavering support they gave to him and the family.

Mike will be remembered for the way he loved—fully and generously—and for the joy he brought to every place and every person he touched. He will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
