Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH- Robert "Rob" Hall Braithwaite III, 60, of Virginia Beach passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, unexpectedly. Rob was born August 10, 1957, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Nancy Freeman Braithwaite and the late Robert Hall Braithwaite Jr. As a young man Rob started his life of service by becoming a Boy Scout attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
Rob was a life member of the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad (Rescue 14) and the City of Virginia Beach EMS. Prior to becoming a member of Rescue 14 he was a volunteer firefighter with Virginia Beach Companies 3 and 8. Rob's contribution to EMS extended beyond Virginia Beach; he was a member of a number of volunteer agencies throughout the Commonwealth, including, but not limited to, the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad and Orange County Rescue Squad. Rob's career spanned over 40 years working with Nightingale Air Ambulance, the state Office of EMS, Medical Transport LLC, UVA-Pegasus Medical Transportation Network (Medic V), AirCare 5, and most recently as a CCT/Paramedic for American Medical Response.
Rob was a teacher and mentor to all who knew him; he touched countless lives throughout the Commonwealth during his long career.
Rob was a gentle giant known for his tender touch to lives and hearts in both his personal and professional communities. The hole he leaves behind is felt as acutely by those that knew him intimately as well as those that were not as lucky.
Rob is survived by his mother Nancy Braithwaite and sister Nancy G. Braithwaite, both of Virginia Beach; a son Robert H. Braithwaite IV of St. Louis, MO; and life partner Diane Reid of Virginia Beach and his beloved fur babies Dickens and Minnie; and countless family and friends.
He will be missed but never forgotten. "Fly High Rob. We've got the Watch".
In lieu of flowers we ask donations in Rob's honor be made to the Volunteer Rescue Squads of Virginia Beach or to the rescue squad of your choice. Condolences can be left at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
