CHESAPEAKE—Richard Everistis Hynes, 72, passed away at his home in Chesapeake, Virginia on May 27, 2022. He was born October 26, 1949 in Newfoundland, Canada and became a citizen of the United States in 1968.

Richard was a graduate of Portsmouth Catholic High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. After graduation from Tech, he moved to Hampton Roads to work with the Army Corps of Engineers, eventually retiring from civil service with the Navy after 30 years.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Theresa Hynes and Edward "Ned" Hynes, and sisters-in-law Patricia Hynes and Noreen Hynes. He is survived by his loving family: children Jason Hynes (wife Cindy Hynes), Heather Hynes (husband Samuel Gray, Jr.), and Matthew Hynes; grandchildren Samuel H. Gray III, Marlina Hynes, Carson Hynes, Anna Hynes, and Jacob Hynes; his brothers Thomas Hynes, Phillip Hynes (wife Fran), Patrick Hynes, Daniel Hynes (wife Suzanne); niece Christy Williams; and nephew Christopher Gray.

The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences. Services will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
