SUFFOLK—Raymond Eugene Gizara of Suffolk passed away on January 9, 2025. He was 85 years old. Raymond was born on April 12, 1939 in Mahanoy City, PA to the late Raymond Louis Gizara and the late Helen Meskis Gizara.

One of four siblings, Raymond was predeceased by his brother, David W. Gizara of Suffolk, and is survived by his two sisters, Dorothy G. Montague of Martinsburg, WV and Rose Marie G. Mitchell and her husband, Joe, of Colfax, NC.

Raymond worked as a bridge operator for the Elizabeth River Tunnel Commission for 27 years and retired in 1995. He was a longstanding member of The Church of St. Therese in Chesapeake.

Raymond was an avid hunter and fisherman and a lifelong fan of the Washington Commanders and the New York Yankees. He was devoted to his many nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Raymond's kind, cheerful presence will be missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior.
