PORTSMOUTH—Raymond Joseph Ciccone went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2025. He celebrated his 93rd birthday just 2 days prior to his passing, surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born in Bronx, NY on January 31, 1932 and lived there until joining the Air Force in 1950. He served as a military police officer and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from federal service in 1993 as an engineering technician.
He married Carmella Rose Spadaccini on October 16, 1955, and they were married until her passing in 2003.
Ray enjoyed baseball and fishing and could often be seen in the local convenience stores, purchasing his lottery tickets. He was a season ticket holder for the Norfolk Tides and many evenings were spent enjoying a game at Harbor Park with his family. Ray was a devoted animal lover, known for his kindness to all creatures, big and small. He was an advocate for animal welfare and supported many organizations dedicated to protecting animals. He was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents George and Grace Ciccone, his wife Carmella Rose Ciccone, and his sisters Madeline Sia and Barbara Gilchrist.
He is survived by his four children: Raymond Ciccone (Kimberly), Steven P. Ciccone, Kevin Ciccone, and Lori-Jo Ciccone Dodd (Timm); his brothers Donald and George Ciccone; seven grandchildren: Steven M. Ciccone, Joseph Ciccone (Marisa), Christopher Ciccone (Courtney), Kevin-Michael Ciccone, Katherine Scales (Brandon), Nicola Ciccone, and Gabriel Pulliam. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his tenth.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Afton Parkway, Portsmouth. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to fund a local feline spay and neuter clinic .
