SUFFOLK—Peter Richard Mitchell, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was born in May 1937 to Anna Magdalen and Peter Joseph Mitchell in San Diego, California.

Pete worked for the Naval Shipyard for most of his career and retired years ago to pursue his many artistic endeavors. Pete was a talented painter, as well as welding sculptor, and was known to have carved a few beloved totem poles.

Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruth Widmann, and spouse of 40 years, Margaret Oast Mitchell, he is survived by his son, Stephen Christopher Mitchell; and three stepchildren, Frederick Girvin Hale, Jr. and wife, Billie; Cynthia Linscott Hale; and Elizabeth Glenn Hale; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pete was an active member of Churchland Baptist Church for many years.  The family will privately handle arrangements for his burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of one's choice. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com
