Chief Warrant Officer 4 Pedro Antonio "Pete" Colón, US Navy Ret. 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Pete was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on March 4, 1941.
Pete served honorably in the Navy first as a hospital corpsman then as a Physician Assistant. He was a member of the first group accepted for the PA program. Prior to entering the PA program, Mr. Colón served with the Marines, USS Sierra, USS Fremont, and USS Ranger. He received his PA training at Navy Hospitals Camp Lejeune, NC; Portsmouth, VA; and George Washington University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Prior to PA school, Pete had received a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Old Dominion University.
After completing PA training, he served at several naval medical clinics, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, USS Eisenhower, and USS Nimitz. He retired from the Navy in 1988. During his years as a PA, he earned a master's degree from George Washington University in Higher Education. He retired from the Navy after 26 1/2 years and continued serving as a PA in the area.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn Batten Colón; two daughters, Kecia Yeates (Doug) of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sara-Beth Jeffrey (Ashley) of Rockledge, Florida; three grandchildren, Ryan and Carson Yeates and Mackenzie-Jane Jeffrey; his sister Illiana Kaiser (Dale) of Greenwood, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.
A Eucharistic Requiem Mass will be held September 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm in St. John's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth. Pete loved the Navy, medicine, fine music, art, literature (English and Spanish), travel and lifelong learning. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , the American Cancer Society , or the charity of your choice.
