Patricia Henley
Bartley
d. Aug 1, 2019
Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH- Patricia Ruth Henley Bartley died peacefully at Mayfair House in Portsmouth on August 1, 2019. She celebrated her 93 rd birthday with her family in June.
Born in Bristol, TN, Pat made her home in Portsmouth for more than seventy years. Long a resident on Carney Farm Lane in Churchland, she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Westwood Garden Club, Neighborhood Watch, and one of the first to declare her home a bird sanctuary.
Pat will be remembered for her willingness to help her family and neighbors. For many years she was seen daily in Westwood walking briskly for her exercise, then returning at a slower pace to visit a neighbor, retrieve a newspaper for a shut-in, or pull trash bins from the street for less able friends. She was known throughout her life for her selfless generosity. Helping others made her day complete.
A 1944 graduate of Cradock High School, Pat was a mother of three, grandmother of three, and great-grandmother of two. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Philip G. Bartley. She is survived by her daughters Ruth Ann Mask (husband Gary) of Beaverton, OR and Phyllis M. Bartley of Portsmouth, and son Philip G. Bartley, Jr. (wife Evelyn) of Edenton, NC.
Pat wished that any remembrances be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, as that disease has affected her family. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Mayfair House staff and management for their loving care of Pat for the last four years.
There are no plans for a memorial gathering. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
