Neil D. O'Hare, 91, of Portsmouth died Monday, January 26, 2015. Born and raised in Queens, NY, Neil moved to Portsmouth in 1990 and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Having received a Master's Degree in psychology from Columbia University, at retirement he held the title of Senior Employment Consultant, Dept. of Labor, State of New York having worked closely with Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller.
He was the son of the late Neil M. O'Hare and Ruth M. O'Connell O'Hare. They had three children. Their mother died when Neil was five. Later his father married Miss Adelaide A. Cavo and they had two more children. Although Neil never married, he was surrounded by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and he loved back. He is survived by sisters Irene T. and husband Alfred M. Gentile of NY, Adelaide C. and husband Jack M. Rattigan of Portsmouth; brother Richard J. and wife Grace G. O'Hare of CT. Another sister, Ruth Alice and husband Peter F. and their son John Gallagher preceded him in death.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, January 30 at Sacred Heart Church, 520 Graydon Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23507, by Rev. Daniel Klem. Visitation with the family will be before Mass at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Debt Reduction.
