Obituary

Middleburg, FL--Miriam "Mia" Genevieve Gallagher Brady, 87 passed away November 21, 2023 at Ascension St Vincent's in Clay County, Middleburg, Florida. Our beautiful Momma succumbed to a brief but brave battle with cancer. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the fourth daughter of Patrick Benedict & Cornelia Catherine Cullen Gallagher.

Mia attended Woodrow Wilson High in Portsmouth. She met and married Lt. John H. Brady, Jr., and they began their life together with a tour of NAS Pensacola, where John attended NASC, followed by tours in Georgia; Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and, best of all, two tours to London, England. The highlight of supporting her husband in his 30-year Naval Aviation Career was living in the United Kingdom, where they formed many lasting friendships.

John's retirement as Commander was held at their home "Millhouse" on the River Thames in Buckinghamshire. They loved to entertain and travel and took their children on many trips throughout Europe.

Mia had a fondness for decorating, art, and painting; she particularly loved exploring the gardens and historical places in England, especially churches. She completed many brass rubbings, including several at Westminster Abbey.

She was always involved in each of her children's clubs: the Brownies, Girl Scouts, ballet, baseball and theater. She was President of VS-27 Officer's Wives Club, President Lionellas Club, Member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, Orange Park Woman's Club, and Founding Member of Orange Park Country Club.

Mia was a character until the end, fondly referred to as a firecracker by many who knew her; she lived life with a joie de vivre and kept her Irish spirit as her guiding force. We will miss her more than we can fathom, but her spirit lives on in us all. She sure did make a lasting impression on all who met her.

In addition to her parents, Mia is predeceased by her husband of over 40 years, John, and her sisters Ellen, Catherine and Cecelia. She is survived by her children Theresa, Tanya, Miriam (Bob), and John; her loving and devoted nieces Madalyn, Catherine, Rita, Thais and Jane; her beloved grandchildren, Robert, Colby, Elizabeth, Catie & Caroline; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Zachary and Emilia.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated November 28 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Orange Park, FL. A graveside service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, Virginia.
