Milton Marshall Phillips, 84, of Chesapeake, Va., passed away at home on May 5, 2015. Born in Bloxom, Va., on March 9, 1931, he was the son of Roy Milton Phillips and Velma Pearl Annis (Marshall).
He was a proud Marine and worked on ordnance on the front lines of the Korean War. He later graduated from Virginia Tech and began a career in retail with Anderton's of Southern Department Stores in Tappahannock, Va.; the majority of his work life was spent with Leggett Department Store at locations in Westminster, Md.; Newport News, Va.; Portsmouth, Va.; and Chesapeake, Va. He also participated in multiple civic organizations such as the Masons, the Rotary Club and the Portsmouth Partnership.
Milton was predeceased by his daughter, Julia Marshall Phillips White, of Belvidere, NC, and his brother, Donald Thomas Phillips, of Bloxom. He is survived by his wife, Emelie Legare Phillips, of Chesapeake, Va.; a daughter, Sara Phillips Eser, of Portsmouth, Va.;and a grandson, John Gregory Leche II, of Greenville, NC.
He was very proud to be from the Eastern Shore of Virginia and spent much of his later days reminiscing with his brother about their childhood in the Bloxom area. He eagerly awaited football season each year to follow his beloved Hokies and Redskins.
No funeral service is planned; however, condolence may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery in Parksley,Va., at a future date.
