PORTSMOUTH--Mary Helen Segall, 100, passed away April 3, 2022. She was born in Matoaka, WV on September 23, 1921, the only daughter of John E. and Mary M. Honaker.

Mary worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth during WWII. Afterwards, she was employed by Portsmouth Public Schools for 32 years as the secretary at Simonsdale Elementary School. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed baking amazing gourmet meals, which we all loved. She was the favorite auntie of her many nieces and nephews. Her six-layer birthday cakes were a big hit with the kids of all ages. An avid gardener, she had a grand garden of Old English tea roses, peonies, camellias, dogwoods, sweet jasmine, and wisteria, to name just a few.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Bernard Segall; three brothers: Bowie Honaker, John Honaker, and Paul Honaker. She is survived by two brothers: Robert Honaker and wife Sara Jane, and William Honaker and wife Sandra.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
