PORTSMOUTH--Mary Holden Gallalee Kirsch, 103, passed away peacefully December 28, 2020. She was born in 1917 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Joseph Frioli Gallalee and Mary Christina Ryan Gallallee.
Mary was a member of the Woman's Club of Portsmouth, Green Pine Garden Club, Waterview Garden Club and a lifetime member of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. She was also a lifelong member of Saint Paul Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, James Peter Kirsch; her parents; and her brothers Joe, Vincent and Martin Gallalee; as well as her sisters Betty Cousins and Kitty Katherman.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Kirsch Powell and Rose Mary Kirsch Rakowski; her grandchildren Jim and John Powell, Judith Ann (Keith) Tanner and Mary Anne (Derek) Lang; her 9 great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Anticuar, Scott, Daniel (Katie), Joey and Allison Powell, Madison, Dehlia and Aric Lang and Evan Tanner; and her three great-great grandchildren, Jackson, Shelby and Saundra; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, at St. Paul Catholic Church. Family will receive friends an hour prior. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saint Paul Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703 or Edmarc Hospice for Children, 516 London Street, Portsmouth, VA, 23704. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the nurses and care workers of Maryview Hospital's 5 th floor South for the excellent care that was provided over the last week.
