Mary Ann Bohan died peacefully at age 102 on June 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Assisted Living Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
Mary was born on November 18, 1913 in Wilmington, DE, the fourth child of six children to the late John and Mary Ann Mullarkey. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anna Alexander, Joseph Mullarkey, Margaret Mullarkey, Kathleen Bernard and John Mullarkey.
Mary was married to Edward M Bohan M.D. from 1937 until his death in 1989. She is survived by her children and their families, Michael Bohan M.D. and his wife Deborah of Portsmouth VA.; Jane Kuniewicz of Haddonfield NJ; J. Stephen Bohan M.D. and his wife Marie Jo of Newport RI; Paula Monk and her husband Terrence of Chatham, Ontario, Canada; and Juliane Bohan M.D. of Albuquerque NM.; thirteen grandchildren, one predeceased grandchild and eleven great grandchildren.
Mary attended Ursuline Academy for twelve years and graduated in 1931. She became a registered nurse following the completion of her education at St Agnes School of Nursing in Philadelphia in 1934. She worked as a private duty nurse in Wilmington for several years. She lived in Wilmington until eleven years ago when she moved to be near her daughter Jane in NJ and more recently to be near her son Michael in VA. A lifelong Catholic, she attended Sacred Heart Church where her husband Edward was a choir member.
She had a clever wit. She was quite well read and loved to listen to vocal music. Fresh flowers from her flower garden always adorned her home. Mary was a great host and great cook and loved big family get-togethers at home and at the beach.
Private interment will take place at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington with a Memorial Service to take place at the Chapel at Cathedral Cemetery at a later date.
