Obituary

SUFFOLK - Mary King Andrews, 80, peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday, August 19, 2023. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary was born in Washington, North Carolina. She grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia, and was a graduate of Cradock High School. Her greatest joys were being married to Jimmie, the love of her life for over fifty years, raising their three daughters, and being the best grandmommy to their many grandchildren.

When her children were young, Mary enjoyed being active with their school and activities as a PTA member, classroom helper, Girl Scout troop leader, and anything else involving her girls.

For many years, Mary dedicated herself to overseeing the accounting aspects of the business she shared with Jimmie, Big Al's Mufflers & Brakes. Her pivotal role contributed to the business's success for more than three decades, until their eventual retirement.

Her devotion to Trinity Episcopal Church was profound; she held such roles as President and Treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women's group. Additionally, she was a longtime member of the CHKD Elizabeth River Circle in Portsmouth, a group that held a special place in her heart.

Mary enjoyed early morning beach walks and spending time with her family at her beach house in Duck, NC. She never saw a sunset she didn't love!

She is survived by her three daughters: Lori Andrews of Richmond, VA, Julie Bunting (Chris) of Avon, NC, and Jennifer Scholes (John) of Suffolk, VA; seven grandchildren: Ashlee Guzman, Danielle Pearson (Nick), Kyle Guzman, Sydney MacCreery (Dan), Drew Bunting, Jake Scholes, and Avery Scholes; four great-grandchildren: Jaeden, Arabella, Maddox, and Xander; her brothers Troy King, Jr. (Linda), Larry King (Judy), and sister Carolyn Harder (Dean).

She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Andrews, her parents Troy and Eloise King of Portsmouth, VA, her sister Sylvia Shea, and brothers Jimmy King and William King.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 26th at Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court Street, Portsmouth, VA, followed by a reception in the Trinity Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
