PORTSMOUTH—Martin Costa, 71, passed away peacefully August 1, 2025, in Portsmouth, VA.  He is survived by his wife Maria; his daughters Barnadate, Roseline, and Patricia; his brothers Boniface, Louis, and Arnold and his sister Joystna; his three sons-in-law; and five beloved grandchildren.

A freedom fighter in the war for Bangladesh's independence in his youth, he was a machinist for a private contractor for 25 years after he immigrated to the United States with his family in 2000.  A man of simple pleasures, he loved fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary of the church.  Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery at 8909 Eclipse Drive in Suffolk, VA.
