Marjorie Cowan James Eaton, 96, peacefully passed away June 8, 2017. She was predeceased by parents Beecher and Diana Cowan, step-mother Becky Cowan, brothers John and Dan Cowan. She was the widow of Ralph H. James, Sr. in 1968 and Robert C. Eaton in 1976.
Margie was a native of Norfolk, but resided in Portsmouth for most of her life. She retired as a secretary for the Portsmouth Public Schools System and was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church, having joined when she was 19 years old. She cherished all the friendships she made at Trinity, especially after she was widowed for the second time. She also enjoyed many wonderful trips with her brother John and his wife Jean.
Survivors include a daughter, Diana James Hicks and husband Kenneth; a son Ralph H. James; a granddaughter Jennifer H. Nowlan and husband Ronnie; a great granddaughter Madelyn; stepchildren Chanel Eaton, Glenn Eaton, Lynette Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews, among them Bob Cowan and wife Tish, who traveled from Texas many times to visit Aunt Margie over the years.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
