Obituary

SUFFOLK—Marianne Tovey Nero died January 14, 2022. She was born in Oswego, raised in Syracuse by her mother, and resided in Virginia and Florida for many years. She returned home to NY in 2006 and lived in Central Square.

Marianne was a graduate of St. Lucy's Academy and a communicant of St. Agnes/St. Michael Parish, where she also served as a eucharistic minister. She worked as a church secretary for several years in both Florida and Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, George; granddaughter Jillian Sullivan; three great-grandchildren: Brianna, Gabriella, and Christian; stepchildren Larry Nero, Barbara Jannise, Daniel Nero, and Lisa Evers, all of VA and NC; and several loving and caring nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Albert and Frances Tovey; brother Albert; sister Margaret; and son Mark Sullivan.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 522 High St., Portsmouth. Burial of Marianne's ashes will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery in Oswego, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital at stjude.org.
