CHESAPEAKE-
Linwood Cahoon, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on August 3, 2020. Jr., as he was called by all those who knew him, was born in Columbia, North Carolina, to Linwood Cahoon Sr. and Vida Simmons Cahoon. His parents moved to Portsmouth, VA, when he was a child.
Jr. enlisted in the United States Army, Cavalry Division, in 1947 at the age of 18, serving in the Korean War. After Korea, while stationed at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, he met and married his beautiful wife, Catherine. They have been married for 68 years.
Moving back to Portsmouth, Jr. began working at Mason and Haynes as a mechanic. His work career included the Norfolk Southern Railroad, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and the City of Norfolk. During his career tenure, he continued to serve as a freelance mechanic.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, and his son, James Michael Cahoon and his wife Darlene of Chesapeake, Virginia.
His grandson, Michael S. Cahoon of Alexandria, Virginia, followed his grandfather's footsteps, having served in the United States Marine Corps and the Army National Guard before retiring. They shared many military stories together.
His granddaughter, Heather L. Cahoon and her wife Eileen, of Millersville, Maryland, shared many happy memories of her grandfather, especially as her chauffeur for all her sports activities.
His great-grandson, Kyle A. Cahoon, and his wife Colleen, of Pasadena, Maryland, also shared the love of the military having served in the United States Army.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters-in-law, Dot of Havelock, North Carolina, and Margaret of Orange Park, Florida; brother-in-law, Butch of Reading, Pennsylvania; as well as special nieces, Earlene, Bobbie, Cindy, Theresa, and Chrissy and nephews David and Curtis Jr. Also left to cherish his memory are his many great-nieces and nephews and a very special 'adopted granddaughter', Andrea, who made him laugh.
