Leona P. Woodling, 92, retired educator for Portsmouth Public Schools died December 13, 2015.
Mrs. Woodling graduated from Indiana State University with degrees in chemistry and home economics, and received her Master's degree in home economics from Hampton University. She taught home economics at Churchland High School from many years and ended her career as the Supervisor of Home Economics for Portsmouth Public Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society of outstanding women educators and The Forum Study Group. In retirement the Woodlings resided in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, BVI and Topping, Va. on the Rappahanock River, in addition to Portsmouth. The Woodlings were charter members of Green Acres Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Woodling was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Richard H. Woodling. Survivors include her daughter, Linnea W. Whitlow; son-in-law, The Honorable Morton V. Whitlow; grandson, M.V. Whitlow, Jr.; great-grandchildren Morton V. Whitlow, III and Hazel Whitlow; and sister, Shirley Shanks.
Friends may join the family to celebrate Mrs. Woodlilng's life at 113 Park Road, Portsmouth, Va. from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. Burial will be private. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to The Elizabeth River Project, 475 Water St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704; or to a charity of choice. B.W. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is assisting the family.
