Obituary

PORTSMOUTH—Larry Edmund Tatman, 79, passed away March 22, 2024. He was born in Urbana, IL, to the late Patrick Wayne Tatman and Mildred Miller Tatman.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy, which he retired from after 23 years of service.  During his service, he spent two tours of duty in Vietnam, served on several different types of Naval vessels from minesweepers to patrol gun boats to aircraft carriers. During this time, he was able to earn two associate degrees from Tidewater Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University.

Larry's time in the Navy also fueled his love for the game of golf.  It allowed him to play on many courses around the world, the highlight of which was being able to play the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland, the birthplace of golf. You could find him on the golf course multiple days a week during his retirement.  He also loved taking care of his and his neighbors' yards by cutting their grass for them.  This act welcomed many new neighbors into his life.

In addition to his parents, Larry is predeceased by brothers and sisters Lawerence, Donald, Charles, George, Jim, Aida, Florence, and Jess.  He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Lynn (Robert); Patty (Bob); Beth (Scott), and his son Patrick (Nena); brothers Paul and Ronni; sister Charlene; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m.  Wednesday, June 5, at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course Pavilion in Portsmouth. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
