CHESAPEAKE—Larry Kirby Brown, 91, passed away at home on January 23, 2024. He was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Lester Brown and Pauline Brown Pelham.
Larry was a graduate of Maury High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving first in the Korean War, followed by the Army Reserves, for a total of eight years. He went on to work as a Field Manager for Burrough/Unisys Computers and was later a courier for Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. He was a longtime member of Believers' Church and was past President of the Kiwanis Club of Churchland.
Early in life Larry was an avid fisherman, a golfer—with two holes in one to his credit—and later took up trap shooting with his buddies at Oceana.
Larry was predeceased by his wife, Billie Burke Brown; his father, Lester Brown; and his mother, Pauline Pelham (Joe). He is survived by his daughter, Beth Brown McGehee (John); grandsons John McGehee, Jr. (Kristie) and Coleman McGehee (Leslie); his brother Jerry Brown (Barbara); sisters-in-law Jackie Doyle (Harry) and Barbara Meiggs (Mike); and brother-in-law William Hoppy Bonneville (Karen).
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. Burial at Olive Branch Cemetery will follow. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
