Joseph Thomas McCormick, 84, passed away peacefully on Nov. 10, 2014.

Mr. McCormick, a native of Long Island, NY, was retired from the New York Daily News after 37 years of service as a stereotyper. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Portsmouth. He proudly served his country as a cryptologist in the U.S. Army from September 1951 through August 1953 during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rosemary McCormick; children, Kathleen Perlman (Matthew), Maureen McCormick Grimes (George), Colleen Marchesani (Michael), Thomas McCormick (Diana), and Kristeen Claudio (Jason); grandchildren, Elizabeth Mims (Pep), Danny McCormick, Patrick and Madison McCormick, Maggie and Olivia Perlman; and one great-granddaughter, Ryan Mims. You will always and forever be in our hearts, "May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand."

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, at the Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Church of the Resurrection.
