Joseph Anthony
Didio
May 6, 1948 — Apr 13, 2018
Windsor
SMITHFIELD- Joseph Anthony Didio, born on May 6, 1948 in Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away Friday morning, April 13, 2018 in his home in Windsor, Virginia. He was widowed with the passing of his loving wife, Anne L. Didio, on January 30, 2018.
He was the first of seven children born to Carlo Rocco Didio and Shirley Isabel Spruill Didio. He graduated from Portsmouth Catholic High School in 1966 and attended Tidewater Community College. Joe retired after 35+ years of government civil service from Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Supervisor of Shipbuilding- Newport News on May 30, 2003.
Joe was a simple, strong, and meticulous man but was always authentic. Joe was a creature of habit, meticulous in nature and quite the perfectionist. To say that Joe loved his Hot Rods would be an understatement. He would happily spend countless hours under the hood of a car. Joe was an avid outdoorsman. He loved nature, hiking, hunting and fishing. He was a skilled carpenter and put great effort into building a log house, and with Anne they made it a wonderful home. He took great pride in his work, but his greatest efforts were found in the legacy he leaves behind. Joe was devoted to his beloved wife and they were always looking for their next great adventure together. He loved his family; his Brothers and Sisters, his Daughters, Sons-in-Law and most especially his Grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Anne L. Didio; his parents, Carlo Didio and Shirley Didio; and one sister, Mary Ann. He is survived by two sisters, Joan Didio Blanchard and Teresa Didio; three brothers, Carl Didio, Jerry Didio, Louis Didio and their spouses; several nephews and one niece; three daughters, Lacie Gross, Heather Greer, and Ashley Oliver; three sons-in-law, Robert Gross, Jason Greer, and Warren Oliver; eight grandchildren, Wesley and Brooke Gross, Cole Gross, Wyatt Gross, Holly Greer, Caleb Greer, Logan Greer, Bailey Oliver, Brett Oliver; and one great-grandchild, Brynnlee Gross.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, April 18, from 6-8 pm at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, VA 23435. A funeral will be held Thursday, April 19 at 11:00 am at Benns Church, 14571 Benns Church Blvd, Smithfield, VA 23430. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad.
