PORTSMOUTH—John Franklin Larcombe, 86, passed away September 20, 2022, in his home. John was born July 26, 1936, in Washington, DC., to the late John Franklin Larcombe, Sr., and Electa Alice Walker Larcombe.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister Electa Phillips (Lee), and his wife of 40 years, Loretta Larcombe. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Mero Larcombe; his children, Marie L. Bradley (Paul) and Electa A. Larcombe; grandchildren Autumn Wigginton (Thom), John and William Grain; 8 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter Katherine Lightner; and a step-grandson, James Sisson.
John was a proud Air Force veteran of the Vietnam war, and a member of the American Legion. He served as a civilian with the U.S. Army and retired after 18 years with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. John was very active in the Portsmouth Olde Towne community, having served as a volunteer with the Friends of the Portsmouth Public Library, Portsmouth General Hospital, the Portsmouth Museum Foundation, Oasis Social Ministries, and the Olde Towne Civic League.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the K9s for Warriors, the Disabled American Veterans, or the Portsmouth Humane Society. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
