Obituary

James David Carr

SUFFOLK—James "Dave" David Carr passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 in his home. He was born in Danville, VA, the son of the late James D. Carr and Genevieve Hawkins Carr.  In addition, he was predeceased by his stepmother Helen Trayham Carr.

Dave graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, VA in 1965 and Virginia Tech with a mechanical engineering degree in 1969.  He retired after 37 years of government service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, including numerous activities inside the Shipyard.

In addition to his parents, Dave was also predeceased by his wife, Doris Butler Carr, the love of his life.  He was most happy while traveling together to many countries overseas and in the continental United States. He became a faithful member of the Church of St. Therese due to Doris's strong Catholic faith.

Dave enjoyed photography, drawing, oil and watercolor painting, and playing golf with close friends.

He is survived by his stepson Karl W. Askew II; his goddaughter Tara Williams Gressley; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and their children, all of whom are loved dearly.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
