PORTSMOUTH- Irene Vivian Doxey, 83, earned her wings on June 4, 2020. She was born in New York, NY, to the late Harry and Anna Burns Robison.
Irene was a retired cafeteria worker with Portsmouth Public Schools. She was a devoted member of Church of the Resurrection serving in the church's liturgical ministry as a Eucharist minister, feeding the hungry at the Oasis Social Ministry, and serving at receptions for the Funeral Ministry for three decades. Irene will be greatly missed by the dear members of the Sewing Circle. Her memory as "Lovely Lady Irene" will live on in her Red Hatters' family, The Fabulous Fruitcakes, and her absence on the Go Tour bus will be felt by her fellow adventurers.
In addition to her parents, Irene is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Doxey, and her son, Kenny Doxey. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Doxey Barth (Keith); her son, Commander Keith M. Doxey, USCG (Spring); her daughter-in-law, Nancy Doxey. Her beloved grandchildren are Keith Bubba Barth (Mary Frances FitzPatrick), Caitlin Barth, Jillian Mancini, Kenny Joey Doxey, Jay Doxey (Jonathan Davis), and Amy Moody. Her great-grandchildren are Diane and Silas. She is also survived by her "adopted" grandchildren - Katelyn Mize, John Kidd, Justin Brooks, Kyla Fischer, and their spouses and families.
Irene will be remembered for her sweet demeanor, giving the best hugs, and her natural inclination for spreading happiness by calling everyone, "Love."
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Church of the Resurrection in Portsmouth. A visitation will take place at the church an hour prior. Condolences may be registered online at BWFosterFuneralHome.com. Donations in Irene's name may be made to Church of the Resurrection, Oasis Social Ministry, or a charity of your choice.
Irene's family thanks you for your many kindnesses and your outpouring of love.
