Helen Marion Russo, 92, loving wife and mother, passed away on March 23, 2015.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Marion was the daughter of the late Eleanor McCormick Anderson and Raymond D. Anderson. She was a graduate of Holy Cross Academy, Lynchburg, VA and of St. Joseph's College, Emmitsburg, MD. After graduation, she was employed as a Pharmacy Assistant at Providence Hospital, Washington, DC and later as a Doctor's Assistant in Lynchburg before becoming the Russo family homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Therese, Chesapeake.
Marion began playing the piano at the age of four, ultimately becoming very accomplished. She delighted her classmates and family with the popular music of the day, and her husband, Joseph, with his favorite classical music, as he relined and savored the joy on many a Sunday afternoon.
Marion was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph Edward Russo, and is survived by her children Mary (Robert), Michael, Chris (Heather), John (Sharon), her brother Raymond D. Anderson, Jr. of Fredericksburg, and many nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd. Chesapeake, VA. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and at the reception following the Liturgy. A private burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and care Marion received at Hillcrest Retirement Center, Kindred Health Care, Sentara Obici Hospital and Maryview Nursing Care Center and the kindness and visits from Church of St. Therese Pastor and Ministry to the Sick, and St. Mary's Church of the Presentation Pastor and Pastoral Care.
