PORTSMOUTH—Harry Alexander Sharpe, Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024, at his home.  He was born on June 22, 1938, in Portsmouth, Va. to Harry A. Sharpe, Sr. and Lillian E. Bennett.

Harry was a 1956 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 -1960. Following his honorable discharge, he pursued a career as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration.  He returned to Portsmouth in 1998 and married Marilyn H. Gooden, who was at his side when he took his final cruise into eternal life.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn H. Gooden-Sharpe; brother, Thomas Sharpe (Zeny); daughters Carol Von Garlem (Tom) and Mary Beth Gooden (Mary); sons Daniel Sharpe and Shawn Sharpe; two granddaughters; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 24, at Westhaven Baptist Church, 4900 Caroline Ave., Portsmouth. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
