Grant Eugene Spurrier, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2014.

Mr. Spurrier, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, retired from the U.S. Navy as an Internal Communications Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. Following his military retirement he worked for the Portsmouth Sheriff's Department, including positions as Watch Commander of the Jail and Supervisor of Court Security, and retired after 26 years of service. He was a wine enthusiast, an entrepreneur, and a long standing member of the Tidewater Kennel Club.

Survivors include three children, Cassidy, Matthew, and Sarah; and a grandchild, Aidan. He was predeceased by a son, Sean.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Burial, with military honors, will be private in Hampton National Cemetery, Hampton, Virginia.
