Gordon Eugene
Saffold
Jun 19, 1943 — Jan 28, 2026
Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH—Gordon Eugene Saffold, 82, departed his earthly life and entered into Heaven on January 28, 2026 after a brief illness.
Gordon was born on June 19, 1943, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Elsie and Gene Saffold, the second of three sons. His family moved to Plasterco, VA when he was nine years old. He graduated from R.B Worthy High School in 1961. He then went to William & Mary for his freshman year, after which he & the Dean decided that he wasn't quite ready for college, so he joined the Army and was sent to California for a year, where he attended Language School to learn Vietnamese, then was sent to Vietnam. (He only remembered the words for "beer" and "steak.")
After serving his country, he returned to William & Mary and completed his degree, then became a C.P.A., passing all 3 parts of the State Board of Accountancy exam the first time, one of his proudest achievements. During his whole career, all of his jobs were in the field of finance in Richmond, Collinsville, Greensboro, Virginia Beach and Portsmouth. For the last 13 years he enjoyed working with his son-in-law's business, Bay Caulking and Waterproofing.
While living in Richmond, fate brought him and Donna Brantley together on a blind date in May 1970. They married on February 13th, 1971, and were blessed with a wonderful marriage for 54 years, and a family that he loved with all his heart, unconditionally.
Gordon was an amazing person… a gentleman, smart, hardworking, respectful, honest, fun, etc. His life had its challenges, but he was perseverant when needed and lived a good life, caring for others and setting a good example, never complaining, always positive. Some people can easily say "I love you." Gordon, instead, showed his love through his actions. He was the perfect example of a "family man" encouraging and supporting his wife and her parents, his daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter, his parents, brothers & wives, niece & husband, etc. He was proud of each of them and shared that pride with others. He kept his family connected no matter the distance.
Gordon is survived by the love of his life, Donna Brantley Saffold; two beloved daughters, Heather Saffold Jenkins and Tiffany Saffold; granddaughter Morgan Jenkins (Papa G to her); son-in law, Mark Jenkins ("Gordo" to him); brothers and wives, Al & Abby Saffold and Paul & Theresa Saffold; niece & husband, Melissa & Kevin Fitzpatrick.
Gordon & Donna were blessed with many friends that they treasured. We know that he will always be in their hearts and a "Celebration of Life" will be held in the future to honor him. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
