PORTSMOUTH-Geraldine "Gerry" Jones, 75, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 7, 2020. She was born September 28, 1944 in Portsmouth, VA and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Violet and Ruddy Edquilang; grandsons Daniel M. Ross and CPT Andrew P. Ross.
Gerry is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rowan Jones; daughters Elizabeth Ross, (Joe Gerschick), Catherine Vick (Mark) and Stephanie Umstead (Jeff); grandchildren Sarah Geisen (Brian), Jordan Umstead, Catherine Willoughby (Dakota), Felicia Ross (Drew) and Matthew Gerschick; great-grandchildren John Geisen, Michael Geisen, Andrew Geisen and Reagan Willoughby; sisters Alice Everett, Dee Miltier (Ray) and Debbie Antonucci (Ronnie); many beloved nieces, nephews and her extended Javier family.
She was a graduate of St. Paul's Catholic High School and a faithful member of The Church of St. Therese in Chesapeake, where she was actively involved in several ministries. Gerry was also a volunteer teacher's assistant at Portsmouth Catholic Regional School where she worked with students in the first grade. Her love for this school and its students was apparent to everyone who knew her. In June 2019, Gerry was inducted into the Circle of Saints at PCRS in recognition of her years of service to the school. The Mayor of Portsmouth also declared June 1, 2019 "Gerry Jones Day" in recognition of her dedication to the welfare of others.
Gerry loved her family with her whole heart. If you knew her, you knew her family, you've seen pictures of her family and you knew how proud she was of each and every one of them.
