G. Eugene Williams, Jr., 91, of Bidgood Drive, passed away on November 3, 2016.
Mr. Williams was born in Portsmouth, the son of the late G. E. Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Thelma Harrell Williams. He retired in 1987 as vice-president of Dominion Bank after 44 years of service. He was past president of the Portsmouth Rotary Club and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. He was past president of the American Institute of Banking of Tidewater, past president of the Bank Administration Institute of Tidewater and was a graduate of the Virginia Bankers School at the University of Virginia. Long active in his community, his service included membership on the Board of Directors of Portsmouth General Hospital and the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce; former vice-president of the Friends of the Naval Shipyard Museum; member of the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club; the Wilson Gridiron Club; and for many years, was active in youth sports in the Churchland area. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22. He was an active member of Churchland Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was the widower of Virginia Futrell Williams since her death in 2007. Gene was predeceased by his two sisters, Audrey L. Williams, Ruth W. Cutchins and a sister-in-law, Joan Rae Williams.
Survivors include one son, G. Kent Williams of Portsmouth; a granddaughter, Laurie A. Beachum of Manteo, N.C.; two great-granddaughters, Abbie and Lilly; a brother, James L. Williams of Portsmouth; and several favorite nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday November 7, 2016 in Churchland Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan W. Koger. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral service and at a reception in the church social hall following the burial.
