Frank Peter Eates, Sr., 82, passed away Wednesday October 1, 2014 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Eates was born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Peter V. and Angelina R. Eates and was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Madeline C. Eates.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 11th Airborne Division and was the owner and operator of Gosport Motors.
He was a member of Church of the Resurrection, the Italian Lodge of Portsmouth, the Knights of Columbus #418, VFW Post #9382, Order of the Sons of Italy in America and a Volunteer at the VA Hampton Medical Center. Among his many accomplishments, he was the owner of one of Virginia's State Preeminent Men's fast pitch softball teams and past president of the Churchland Little League for football and baseball, where he organized the first concession stand.
He is survived by his two daughters, Rosemary E. Barnes and Annette M.E. Nelms (Jeffrey); three sons, Frank P. Eates, Jr. (Sandra), Peter V. Eates (Deanna) and Michael L. Eates; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great grandsons. He is predeceased by a grandson and son-in-law.
Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday October 7, 2014 in Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA by the Rev. Gino Rossi. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, VA with military honors. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Condolences may be registered at bwfosterfuneralhome.com.
