Obituary

PORTSMOUTH--Fay Hutcheson Leonard, 83, passed away May 24, 2021.  She was born September 2, 1937 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Nellie and Archie Hutcheson.

Fay graduated in 1955 from Woodrow Wilson High School and worked for V.H. Monet in Smithfield for 10 years, focused the next years on raising her children, and then joined GSH Real Estate and became a managing broker over a successful career.

Fay loved horseback riding, her many dogs, traveling and wintering with her "Florida Family," line dancing, karaoke, and playing pickleball.

She is predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. James Brady Leonard, Jr.; great-grandson Noah Reynolds; her 3 sisters: Jean Jennings, Mildred Jennings, Evelyn Cherry; her brother, Norman Hutcheson; and nieces Debbie Jennings and Audrey Cooke, who was like a sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Angel Hoffman; was known as Nunu to her granddaughter Laura Reynolds; her great-granddaughter Emma Reynolds; stepchildren James Leonard III, Michael Leonard and Michelle Gold and husband Brian; cousin Carolyn Kirsch and husband Michael; and nephews Ricky, David, Johnny and Wayne Jennings. George "Butch" Cook, who was a lifelong friend and became her partner, then caregiver through some difficult times.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Churchland Baptist Church, 3031 Churchland Blvd., Chesapeake. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
