Donna Marie Campbell, 72, a former resident of Western Branch, passed away November 14, 2013 in Maryland, following a long illness.

Donna, a native of Rome, Georgia, attended the Maryview Hospital School of Nursing in Portsmouth, where she graduated first in her class. She later worked as a nurse practitioner for Maryview Hospital, the Virginia Public Health System, and the American Red Cross. Her last professional position was as a school nurse for Portsmouth Public Schools. She was active in various faith-based volunteer activities throughout her life. She was the widow of Dr. Robert M. Campbell since his death in 2005. She is also preceded in death by her father, Cliff Broadaway; and her great-grandson, Ethan Dick.

Survivors include her mother, Lois Broadaway; her three children, J. Michael Dick, Kathleen D. Leslie, and Jeffrey S. Dick; five grandchildren, David Dick, Jamie Dick, Katy Leslie, Devon Leslie, and Joshua Dick; a great-granddaughter, Madelynn Dick; her sister, Suzanne Dixon; and a host of friends who will miss her quick wit and predisposition for mischief.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Burial will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery (aka St. Paul's Cemetery). Friends may join the family from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gates County Special Olympics, 1104 NC 32 South, Hobbsville, NC 27946, which has provided her grandson Joshua with many opportunities that she wished other children could have.
