PORTSMOUTH - Dr. David Rayl died on August 6, 2016. He was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on October 7, 1943 to Harold and Claire Saylor Rayl. He was a graduate of Wichita State University and the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He was a Navy Flight Surgeon who served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. He did an internship at Camp Pendleton, CA and an OB/GYN residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He is also a veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm having served with Fleet Hospital Five. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain. Following his retirement he spent 13 years on the staff at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kilby Rayl, his sisters Nancy Costello of Hutchinson, KS and Suzanne Seebald of York, PA; two sisters-in-law, Martha Allison and her husband, George, and Adrian Wang and her husband, Wenjong, and one brother-in-law, Ronn Kilby and his wife, Marti.
Very special to him were his nieces and nephews; Tim Costello, Ann and Brian Chalfant , Scott and Janet Seebald, Craig and Carla Seebald, David Allison, Kathryne and Jesse Crowe, Sean and Angelique Kilby. Extra special to him were his grand nieces and nephews; Mike, Jack and Tommy Chalfant, Matthew and Savarin Seebald, Armand, Amelie and Ava Kilby and Gibson Crowe.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High Street, Portsmouth. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
