CHESAPEAKE—David Ellis Pierce, 81, passed away August 25, 2021. He was born in Detroit, MI to the late S. Ellis and Mary Virginia Nay Pierce.
David grew up in Kinston, NC and was an avid outdoorsman. He went to college at the Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1963 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1968 and was stationed in West Germany and Thailand. Upon completing his military obligation, he joined the Virginia Highway Department where he served as the District Bridge Engineer for the Suffolk residency.
David was an avid artillery historian, working closely with experts in the field after his retirement in 1993. David's proudest achievement in this area was his work revitalizing Trophy Park at the U.S. Navy Yard in Portsmouth Virginia in the late 90s.
David is predeceased by his wife, Lorene Pierce, and his first wife, Janet Pierce. He is survived by his son, Howard Pierce and wife Linda, and two grandchildren, Virginia and James.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 16, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Interment will be at Queen's Meadow Point Cemetery, Keyser, WV. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
