David Charles
Holley
Mar 16, 1951 — Mar 26, 2026
Portsmouth
David Holley, 75, of Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, David lived a life defined by hard work, humor, and a deep love for those closest to him.
David began his career in the newspaper industry before finding his true calling in finance, where he spent over 40 years building his own firm. Through dedication, integrity, and perseverance, he created not only a successful business but a legacy of commitment and leadership that impacted many.
A graduate of Belmont Abbey College, David carried a lifelong passion for sports — a love that ran deep in his family. His father played basketball at William & Mary, and his uncle played basketball at Duke, traditions of athletic excellence and pride that David cherished and passed on to his two sons who also competed in collegiate sports.
More than anything, David loved his family and friends. He was a constant source of strength, laughter, and wisdom. Whether telling stories, cracking jokes, or simply being present, he had a way of making people feel at ease and valued. His warm personality, his sense of humor, and his infectious laugh left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
David is survived by his loving wife Penny of 51 years; his two sons, Paul Holley and Jasen Holley; his three grandchildren, Violet Holley, Jude Holley, Eleanor Holley; and his older brother, Mike Holley and wife Patricia Holley, who will continue to carry forward his spirit, values, and love.
He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. A special thank you to all the family and friends that supported us through this process. In lieu of flowers we ask that a donation be made on behalf of Dave Holley to The American Cancer Society .
